Obituary For Alan Edgar Simon
Alan Edgar Simon was born in Rapid City, SD to Charley J. and Anna (Rozdal) Simon on October 18, 1957. He went to school at New Underwood, and graduated from New Underwood high School in 1975. He had a college degree in Psychology from California and a Bachelor of Science degree from State of South Dakota University in Arts and Science in 1983.
Alan worked small odd jobs during his lifetime. He enjoyed old comic books and movies. Growing up the family spent alot of time camping, hiking and exploring the Black Hills. In his adult years, he would also spend time with friends going to Deadwood. He shared a special bond with Viene Anderson and her family.
Alan is survived by his sister Marcela Simon of Rapid City, SD, brother in law Mark Behrend of Brookings, SD and 16 cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents, sister Deon, brother David, all grandparents, aunts and uncles on both sides of his parents. Alan passed away on approximately June 19, 2026 at his home from suicide.
Family graveside services will be at 10:00am on Wednesday Aug 12th , 2026 at Lakeside Cemetery, Owanka, SD. (Exit 90, North 4 miles)

Al and I were great buds when we were young. He was a couple years older than me, but when I was 11 we started our first business together. Mowing lawns. We did that even when he was old enough to drive. We would mow until we had enough to put gas in the (Batmobile). Then we'd cruise around the upper side of town so that when we ran out of gas we could push it back down to his house. When we weren't blowing things up with his science kit. We also spoke so much in pig Latin to each other that we could think in it.

I knew Al from high school and haven't seen him much since. He was very kind and a good man. So sorry for your loss. Heaven is sweeter now.

Al was one of my best friends, he was like a big brother to me. He never missed calling me on every Sunday afternoon. We shared stories. He always sent me a birthday card on my birthday and I'd make sure I sent a card on his birthday. Our talks and his stories I will miss and do miss. Sincerely, Nola Morgan
