November 2, 1936 - August 10, 2019

Alois ‘Al’ J. Hansen, 82 of Columbia, TN passed away on August 10, 2019 at the Rapid City Regional Hospice House surrounded by family. He was born on November 2, 1936 to Alois Sr and Germaine (Yelle) Hansen in Flint, MI. On February 15, 1958 in Flint he married the love of his life Sondra ‘Sunny’ MacAlpine. They were married for 61 wonderful years and were blessed with 4 children: Ken, Kim, Keith and Kelly.
For 41 years Al was chief engineer at GM/EDS/Saturn in Michigan and later in Tennessee. During his time there, he designed and installed the Broadband Cable System and also designed and installed the Fire Security System at the new Saturn plant in Springhill, TN. He was always a dedicated employee, so much so that he never took a sick day. Al also served as a Police Officer for many years with the Burton, Michigan Police Dept.
In April of this year, Al and Sunny moved to Rapid City, SD to be near family due to health issues. Al always looked forward to their family fish fries and to play with his grandsons trains. He loved to go golfing, playing cards with family/friends, go camping, and especially sitting by the campfire. Anybody who knew Al knew he was always ‘excellent’ and that he loved his frogs and cats.
Al is survived by his wife, Sondra ‘Sunny’, sons Kenneth Hansen, Rapid City and Keith Hansen of Columbia, TN; daughters Kim (John) Glodt, Rapid City and Kelly Okones, Omaha, NE; 9 grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren; sister, Rosalie ‘Karen’ Hansen, Clio, MI; sister in-law Kay Churchill, Grand Blanc, MI and several nieces and nephews and many friends across this great country.
