Alvin (Butch) Peters passed away at the age of 82 at Ft. Meade on Tuesday February 22nd, 2022 surrounded by family. He was born December 19th, 1939 to Fred and Ethel (Dobbins) Peters in Murdo, SD. He was the youngest of 10 children. He graduated from the 8th grade in Draper, SD. After graduating the 8th grade he worked for several local farmers and ranchers doing odd jobs until he volunteered for the draft joining the army in 1958. While in the army he was part of the A Battery 3rd Missile Battalion, 68th Artillery and earned his high school diploma. He served until 1961 when he was honorably discharged. After the military he went to work for his brother at Peters Standard Service in Kadoka, SD until 1963. He worked at various service stations until 1965 when he purchased the West Boulevard Standard in Rapid City. In 1967 he sold the station and began employment with Boeing where he worked on the missile sites in various locations. After leaving Boeing in 1969 he worked as a self employed contractor. In 1974 he started employment with Dakota Cement plant where he worked until his retirement in 2001.

In 1963 he met the love of his life Janet (Skinner) Peters in Pierre, SD. They were married May 16th 1964. On May 20th 1965 they welcomed twin girls into the world, Cathy and Colleen. Then on February 26th 1977 they celebrated the arrival of their son, Jason.

Together Butch and Janet enjoyed family, friends, fishing, Nascar, trips to Deadwood, and car shows. His hobbies included rebuilding old cars, he loved his Volkswagon bugs, building his own homes, and remodeling. By far his favorite pastime was watching his grandkids and great grandchildren play. He was a member of the Dakota Rods & Classics.

He is survived by three children Cathy Simmons, Vale SD; Colleen Escott, Vale SD; Jason and Justina Peters, Rapid City SD. Six grandkids, six great grandkids with two more on the way. Sisters Grace Carney and Ethel(Bluie) Oldenkamp. Brothers Fredy(Fritz) Peters and Allen(Chip) Peters. Also, his best friend and faithful dog Speedy.

He was preceded in death by his wife Janet (Skinner) Peters in 2017; his parents Fred and Ethel Peters; his sisters, Wilma Uhlir, Betty Borders; his brothers, Clyde Peters, Olin Peters, Dale Peters, an infant brother Fred Peters Jr; and son-in-law Rod Simmons.

In lieu of flowers the family has establish a memorial fund for the care of Butch’s best friend, Speedy.

The family invites you to join them for a luncheon at Atonement Lutheran Church, 602 Auburn Dr. Rapid City, SD, after the graveside service.
