Clyde A. Thompson was born September 4,1936 to Elmer and Ella (Vearrier) Thompson in Aurora County, SD. Clyde was an identical triplet, along with brothers Clair and Clayton. He grew up on the family farm near Storla, SD and attended country school near there, through the 8th grade. He entered the United States Army on June 11, 1956 and was honorably discharged on March 10, 1959.
Clyde married Janet Harrington on November 25, 1989 in Rapid City, SD. He farmed and performed various labor jobs until suffering a work related injury and becoming disabled in 1972.
Clyde enjoyed fishing and hunting, attending stock car races and gardening. He was an excellent cook, with his own secret recipes for caramel rolls, meatballs and potato salad, that many raved about. Clyde was also a passionate fan of NASCAR racing, his favorite driver being Carl Edwards. He was always excited to hear Dwight Yokum music, “turn it up!”
Clyde is survived by his wife Janet Thompson; his former wife, Mavis Thompson, and their four children: Barry (Cindy) Thompson of Cottage Grove, MN; Brenda (Rick) Hovdet of Lakeville, MN; Bridgett (Ruben) Ojeda of Buckeye, AZ; Becky (Joseph) Edwards of Rapid City, SD; a step-son, Jeffery Bonner; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; brother, Clair (Nyla) Thompson of Salem, SD; brother-in-law, Fay Harrington; sisters-in-law, Phyllis Thomas and Inez Harrington.
Clyde is preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Ella; four brothers: Lester, Robert, Lloyd and Clayton; six sisters: Lulu Strand, Violet Kropp, Darlene Muth, Opal Strand, Lois Shefner and Delores McDonald.
