Corey Michael Gilbert, 52, of Rapid City, SD passed away on May 9, 2021 in Rapid City, SD. Corey was born in Pierre, SD to Clyde and Gloria Gilbert on February 20, 1969. He was raised in Rapid City and attended school at Central, Rapid City. He graduated from Polaris High in Phoenix, AZ. Soon after graduation, he joined the United States Marines. He served in Desert Storm. Several years later, he moved back to Rapid City where he met his future wife, Shona. They got married on April 15, 2015 and made Rapid City their permanent residence to be closer to family and friends.
Corey worked as a wood laminator for Merillot for over 11 years. He enjoyed all sports and was the assistant coach for a little league baseball team. Back yard grilling was a must for him, something he had to do weekly. He enjoyed camping and his dogs and was a member of the NRA.
Corey is survived by his wife Shona, step daughter Angela Ollila, step son Hayden Ollila, four grandchildren, Tyler Mudlin, Sophia Ollila, Isaac Mudlin and Elias; mother Gloria Gilbert, sister Tena (Steve) Jensen, sister Jennifer Gilbert, brothers Justin Gilbert and Joey Gilbert, and nephews, Joshua Gilbert, Casey Derzab and Sean Derzab.
He was preceded in death by his father Clyde Gilbert and brother Jimmie Gilbert.
