David C Cook, 72, of Rapid City, died Thursday Jan. 6, 2011, at Rapid City Regional Hospice House following a seven-month battle with brain cancer. He was born Feb. 26, 1938, in Alexandria, Ind., a son of Glae B. and Ruth E. (Cline) Cook. Dave was a deacon in the First Baptist Church of Zephyrhills, Fa., for many years. He supported foster children’s programs, opened his home to revival preachers and cooked many church suppers. He loved western-themed books and movies, card games and puzzles of all kinds. Over the years, his hobbies included target shooting and making his own bullets. He also put together a ham radio in the garage, planted backyard gardens and took his family camping all over the Southeast. Dave was a rural mail carrier and retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 31 years. He later worked at Dollywood in Pigeon Forge, Tenn., for four years. His favorite place to travel was Niagara Falls He moved to Ohio in 2000, and became an avid hockey fan and member of the Youngstown Steelhounds Booster Club. In Nov. 2009, he moved to South Dakota and became an avid Rapid City Rush fan and a member of their booster club. Dave is survived by his life partner of 13 years, Carole Bolash Zoll, of Rapid City, formerly of Struthers, Ohio; his daughter, Angela Brown of Sevierville, Tenn; three grandchildren, Jared D. McNamara, Sarah L. and Dylan R. C. Brown; and several great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his daughter, Cyndi Mabe.
