Dawna Sue Yellow-Bank

February 8, 1954 - January 4, 2021

Dawna Sue “Oyate Ki Wawicakiksu Win” Yellow Bank became a citizen of heaven on Monday, January 4, 2021 at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD after a 75 day battle against Covid-19.

Dawna was born in Macy Nebraska on February 8, 1954. She was enrolled with the Omaha Tribe of Nebraska and was also half Sac & Fox Tribe in Iowa.

She was adopted at a very young age and raised in Lincoln, Nebraska by Marion (Meyer) Dinsmore and Ralph Fielder and her birth name was changed from Rose Marie Webster to Dawna Sue (Fielder) Yellow Bank.

She attended elementary & middle school in Lincoln and later received her G.E.D. When she was 18, her family relocated to Phoenix, Arizona to reside for a few years. During this time is when she met her first husband and took after his last name. After moving back to Nebraska in 1978, she received her degree and license in Cosmetology and worked as a beautician for some time. In 1980, Dawna moved to South Dakota and met Dale Red Boy. They soon moved to the Pine Ridge Reservation and wedded. In May of 1984, Elizabeth Marie Yellow Bank was born to her and Dale. The next year after, they welcomed Crystal Dawn Red Boy, who sadly & suddenly passed away from SIDS in February 1986. For the next few years they carried on with raising Elizabeth. Dawna was already beading after meeting Charles Fast Horse in 1985 when they moved to Rapid City that same year. It was then that she learned how to do beadwork and had perfected it since then.

In 1990, Dawna gave birth to her youngest daughter, Angela Lynn (Red Boy) Tsosie. After having children, she continued on with her beadwork while working full-time as a supervisor at the Holiday Inn Hotel in Rapid City. She soon had to retire from the workforce after a car accident that changed her life. Ever since then, up until her passing, she continued to perfect her beading. Her artwork was on display and for sale at Prairie Edge in Rapid City. She is survived by her daughters, Elizabeth Eagle Bull of Rapid City, SD; Angela (Red Boy) Tsosie of Flagstaff, AZ; grandsons Ryan Ray Eagle Bull, Ryland Eagle Bull of Martin, SD; granddaughters Kamimila Eagle Bull, Tianna Eagle Bull of Martin, SD; Lynnea Tsosie of Flagstaff, AZ; son in-law Avery Tsosie of Flagstaff, AZ; and special friend and partner Dale Red Boy of Rapid City, SD. She is proceeded in death by her adopted parents, Marion (Meyer) Dinsmore & Ralph Fielder; daughter Crystal Red Boy and grandson Jeremiah “J.J.” Eagle Bull.

Funeral service will be Tuesday, January 12, 2021 at Behrens Wilson Funeral Home in Rapid City, SD. Viewing will be at 9:00 am and service at 10:00 am with Cheryl Arguello officiating. Gravesite service & burial will follow at Pine Lawn Memorial Cemetery in Rapid City, SD.
