Eleanor Edelman, 90, passed away Monday, April 10, 2023, at Monument Health, Rapid City, SD.

Eleanor Jane Edelman, was born to Robert and Helen (Christopherson) Terrio, July 27, 1932, in Irene, SD.

She attended and graduated from Viborg High School in 1950.  Melvin and Eleanor were married April 12, 1952, in Louisville, Kentucky, before Melvin served in the Army in Korea.  Upon his return to the States, they farmed in Southeastern South Dakota before moving to the Black Hills.  Eleanor was the Postmaster in Box Elder, SD for many years, before retiring in 1982.  Later they moved to Rapid City.

Eleanor treasured her family and friends, she and Melvin were devoted to their little dog, Rusty.  She loved her flowers, especially her African Violets…she had a special knack with them. She enjoyed her teapot collection and was an avid crocheter and quilter. She crocheted many afghans, baby afghans and doilies for her family and friends. She was also an avid reader…In her spare time you would often find her “with her nose in a book” as she would say! Eleanor also enjoyed going to rummage sales.

Eleanor passed away surrounded by family.  Her memory will be cherished by her children; Janet (David) Embree, Debbie (Dale) Schubauer, Kevin Edelman; her grandchildren, Mali (Stephen), Josh (Rachel); Chris, Miranda, Jon; her great-grandchildren; her sister, Lorraine Rye; and her many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin in 2013; grandson, Matthew Embree in 1987; her brother, Lyle D. Terrio in 2015; and her parents.
