Harvey Emmanuel Christensen went home to his heavenly Father June 24, 2008. Harvey was born October 23, 1910 to C.W. and Petrea (Sorenson) Christensen in Oakfield Township, Audubon County Iowa. As a young boy he moved with his family to Dell Rapids, SD where he lived until he graduated from high school. He moved back to Iowa and attended Iowa State University in Ames majoring in Electrical Engineering. He gave his life to Christ at the age of 11 and faithfully served Him from that time until his death. For many years he would take his family to church early then make three trips to various parts of town to bring children to Sunday School. He also taught the high school boys class. Through the years he held many other positions in the church and Sunday School. He was a member of the First Evangelical Free Church until he was commissioned to start Rimrock Evangelical Free Church in 1980. Most recently he has been a member of the South Canyon Baptist Church. He was also a member of Gideon’s International for many years. He married Viola Jorgenson March 20, 1935 at the Jorgenson farm near Chester, SD. They owned and operated a Texaco gas station in Hartford, SD until March of 1939. At that time they sold the station and moved to Rapid City. Harvey went to work for Black Hills Power and Light. Then he was hired as the Rapid City electrical inspector. During WWII he was also the city building inspector and the city plumbing inspector when those employees were drafted; he also served as an air raid warden. In the late forties he started his own electrical contracting business, Christensen Electric. Many of the homes and businesses in Rapid City were wired by him. In November 1955 he purchased Hass Repair Shop and named it Harvey’s Fixit Shop (now known as Harvey’s Lock and Security) which is still owned and operated by his family. After retirement Harvey and Viola spent more than 30 years traveling together, enjoying many winters in various warmer southern areas. They spent four summers working at the State Game Lodge in Custer State Park. Harvey was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He is survived by his three daughters and sons-in-law, Phyllis (Ed) Hubin, Rapid City, Doris (Bill) Bonnell, Waterford MI, and Bonnie (Ed) Crossman, Rapid City, nine grandchildren and twenty nine great grandchildren.
