The Life of Hazel Lorene Hoffman

After graduating from Mineola High School, the family moved to Delta, Colorado, where she met and married Virgil George Martin from Spearfish, South Dakota, on September 17, 1946. Two children were born to bless this union, Lana Jean Morris and Colin Leslie Martin. Virgil passed away on September 21, 1966.

On April 13, 1968, two families became one when she married to Charles H. Hoffman in Rapid City, South Dakota. She became the mother of two more children, Sandra DuCray and Donald Hoffman.

Lorene worked as an Assistant Teacher and a Substitute Teacher in the Rapid Valley School when her children entered school, but she was mostly a stay-at-home mother. She enjoyed helping her son in sports as a baseball scorekeeper, and her daughter in Girl Scouts as a Girl Scout Leader. After her first husband passed away, she worked as Secretary at the First Baptist Church in Rapid City for several years.

Her main ministry for the Lord was giving a twice weekly Bible Study for the women inmates at Pennington County Jail for 32 years with a dear friend, Norma Steinwandt, until moving to Austin Texas in October of 2013.

Lorene is survived by her daughter, Lana Morris of Austin, TX; her son Colin Martin and wife Debbie of Summerville, South Caroline; her stepson Donald Hoffman and wife Mary of Golden Valley, Minnesota; the family of her stepdaughter Sandra DuCray of Casa Grande, Arizona; her sister Billie Starkovich of Delta, Colorado; 11 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and the extended family of the Pryors, Greslins, and Wilsons. She also had numerous nieces and nephews.

Lorene was preceded in death by her two husbands, Virgil Martin and and Charles Hoffman, her stepdaughter Sandra DuCray, and many other family members.
