Henry (Hank) Karl Bruch, 90, Sturgis, died Friday, December 4, 2020, at his home near Sturgis.

He was born August 8, 1930, to Henry S. and Agnes Bruch in Sturgis. He spent his youth in Sturgis and at the ranch near Stoneville. He attended the St. Martin’s Catholic school in Sturgis.

He was drafted into the Army in 1952, where he spent 2 years in Europe during the post WWII era. He was proud of his time in the service and enjoyed seeing the country there. He was offered a battlefield commission, but declined to come home and get married. He married Carol Cammack in Oct. 1954 at Immaculate Conception Church in Bear Butte Valley.

They ranched at Stoneville until 1961, when they moved to Bear Butte Valley. Hank spent his spare time reading and staying informed, and attempting to keep the local politicians in line. He had his work cut out for him in that arena. Henry had an intense sense of fairness and always made sure everyone got what was fair and right.

Henry was a parishioner of St. Anthony’s, Red Owl church until the 1960’s, Immaculate Conception, Bear Butte Valley until the 1970’s, Our Lady of the Rosary Chapel, Sturgis until 1992 and Immaculate Conception Church, Rapid City for 28 years until his death. Henry was involved in every church choir and loved to sing.

Hank is survived by his 6 children; Paul (Cindy), Peggy (Keith), James, Carl (Sheree), Cathy, and Shirley (Harold); 14 Grandchildren; 26 Great Grands; and his sister, Leona.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Agnes Bruch, 7 siblings, his wife, Carol, and one grandson, Kelly.

A memorial has been established in Hank’s name to the Bruch Ranch Cemetery fund.
