Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, May 17, 2010 at Behrens-Wilson Funeral Home with Rev. Marvin Flowers of First Christian Church as officiant. Interment with full military honors provided by the 28th Bomb Wing Honor Guard, EAFB, will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Sunday, May 16, 2010 at the funeral home.

James Cleon Fowler, 94, of Rapid City passed away May 12, 2010 at Rapid City Regional Hospital. He was born on September 7, 1915 to Martin Van Buren Fowler and Mary (Fletcher) Fowler in Spurgeon, Indiana where he grew up with 11 brothers and sisters. After graduating from Spurgeon High School in 1933, he joined the Armed Forces and served his country for 22 years, retiring in 1957. While stationed at Ellsworth Air Force Base, he met Mari Etta Werner who became his wife of 55 years. Following his military career he worked at Rose Photography, Mills Drug, Nash Finch, Williams Distributing, and Black Hills Candy and Tobacco Company where he was employed for 22 years. Jim was a sports enthusiast. He played basketball, baseball, and was an avid bowler and fisherman. He is survived by his daughter Janette (William) Tysdal of Rapid City; stepson Richard (Sonja) Roberts of Sheridan, WY; daughter-in-law Cindy (Weichmann) Fowler of Rapid City; grandchildren Tanya Nelsen, Alysia Willmes, Tonielle Kelly, and Jack Fowler; step grandchildren Michael Roberts and John Roberts; three great grandchildren and his sister, Mynetta (Gene) Boardman of Amarillo, TX. He was preceded in death by his wife Mary Etta, his son Marty, and step granddaughter Mona.
