Service Date May 9, 2006

Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m., Tuesday May 9, 2006 at Behrens-Wilson Funeral Home.  Interment will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery with Military Honors provided by the Sturgis Honor Guard.  Visitation will be 4-7 p.m., Monday May 8, 2006 at the funeral home.

Joseph Sollid, 87, Rapid City, died Friday, May 5, 2006 at Rapid City Regional Hospital. He was born July 29, 1918 in Grygla, MN to Halvor and Guina (Tweten) Sollid. He was raised and educated in that area and graduated from high school in Grygla.

He worked at CC Camps until he entered the US Army on March 19, 1941 and was honorably discharged December 23, 1943.  While in the Army, Joe was one of the first Harley Davidson Motorcycle Scouts.

Following his discharge, he worked at the Army Depot, Igloo, SD where he received a purple heart. He later moved to Rapid City where he drove a taxi and did carpentry work. He attended NCB and following graduation, was a tax accountant for many years. During this time, he would travel back and forth to Alaska where he worked on the pipeline.  He also built and maintained Four-plexes in Rapid City until he retired.

He enjoyed fishing, skiing, swimming, bowling and schottische dancing which he did when he was younger.

He is survived by his ex wife, Katherine Sollid; a daughter, Loveletta Gibson both of Rapid City; 3 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, a great great grandchild and a half sister Rosella Keester, Grygla, MN.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sons, Joseph Thomas Sollid, Victor Lee Sollid, a granddaughter, Kristi Bell, 3 brothers and a sister.
