Kathryn Cumming Webb, 56, passed away Wednesday, May 05, 2010, at Hospice House of the Hills in Rapid City, South Dakota, after a long and courageous battle with breast cancer. Kathryn was born on March 7, 1954 in Columbus, Nebraska to James Cumming and Alyce Van Berg Cumming. She was a talented singer, dancer, and artist, singing her first solo at the age of 8. After graduating from Columbus High School in 1972, she moved to California to perform with the Young American Song and Dance Troupe, based in the Los Angeles area. She was to call California her home for the next 35 years. She moved to Rapid City in 2007, quickly making friends and becoming a much loved member of her community. She was an avid supporter of wind energy, the environment and social justice, remaining an activist for change and equality until her death. She loved gardening, nature and the arts. She was a member of the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, Democracy in Action, Non Violent Communication, and numerous other organizations based on preservation of the world she loved. Survivors include two sons, Zachary and Luke Webb, both of Lebanon, Oregon, her parents, Alyce Cumming, Sturgis, and James (Sandra) Cumming, Columbus, Nebraska; three sisters, Cheyne Cumming, Portland, Oregon, Jamie (Qusi) Al-Haj, Rapid City, and Alyssa Cumming, Versailles, Kentucky; nieces, Mahala (Brian) Bach, Rapid City, Kipenda Ritcherson, Fairfax, Virginia, Tara and Renna Al-Haj, Rapid City; several great nieces and nephews; two sisters of the heart, Maureen Eckl, Oxnard, California and Carol Merwin, Rapid City, and many other wonderful friends.
