Graveside services will be 10:00 a.m., Friday May 25, 2007 at Black Hills National Cemetery with Pastor Steve Mechem officiating. Military honors will be provided by the VFW Post #1273 Honor Guard. Those attending may meet at Behrens-Wilson Funeral Home at 9:15 a.m. as we will then process to the cemetery
Keith L. Smith, 71, Rapid City, passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by loved ones, on Oct. 11, 2006 after a short battle with Leukemia. Keith was born to Kenneth and Mable (Anderson) Smith on Feb. 24, 1935 in Philip, SD. He lived in Philip until he was four, then moved to Michigan for 2 years and moved back to Rapid City permanently when he was six. Keith graduated from Rapid City High School in 1954 then joined the Navy. After serving in the Navy, Keith again returned to Rapid City where he met and married Diane Freeman, his wife of 42 years. Keith was very active and coached in Rushmore Little League from 1978 to 1986. Keith would always go and attend little league games when the time allowed. Keith had just retired from McKie Ford on May 16, 2006 after working there for 44 years. He enjoyed riding his Honda Goldwing Motorcycle and driving his Ford Mustang with his friends. He belonged to the GWRRA, the GWTA and HRG of America. For the past eight years, Keith was very involved with and believed in the Shrine’s Teddy Bear run. He rode in this event annually to help raise money for the Rapid City Shrine’s travel fund. Keith was a loving husband, father and a doting grandfather. He is survived by his wife Diane, 2 kids and their spouses Karen Hilliard (Smith) and her husband Steve; Kelly Smith and his wife Terri; 3 grandkids, Ashley, Jordan and Jared Smith; one sister, Myrtle Fritz of Washington and many nieces and nephews. Keith will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
