Margo Lillian (Sternhagen) Nedved, 85, passed away on August 10th, 2026, at Monument Hospice House in Rapid City, SD. Services will be held on Saturday, August 22, 2026, at 11:00 AM at the Knollwood United Methodist Church in Rapid City, SD. Services can be live streamed at Knollwood United Methodist Church (knollwoodumc.org). A private family burial will be held at a later date.

Margo Lillian Sternhagen was born July 5, 1941, to Tom and Lillian Sternhagen. She had one brother, Clayton, and was his sidekick. She enjoyed the peace and quiet outdoors on the farm near Avon, SD. Margo lost her mom in 1956, and this is when her strong work ethic began. Her childhood friends became lifelong forever friends. She attended Avon School and graduated in 1959. After high school, she attended Sacred Heart School of Nursing in Yankton, SD in 1962. Margo worked at the Tyndall Clinic after graduation.

Margo married Leland Nedved in 1963. Margo and Leland were blessed with three boys; Troy, Shane, and Derrick. She followed her boys around to their sporting events and activities. Margo was their number one fan.

While raising three boys, Margo took care of the home and worked many years as a nurse, and then she worked for the United States Postal Service. As a dedicated worker, she delivered mail by foot. Rain or shine, 100-degrees or a blizzard, she would make sure the mail was delivered. Margo was a member of the local PEO, BPW, Winner Methodist Church and taught Sunday School.

Margo moved to Sioux Falls in the early 90’s, and she worked for the United States Postal Service and part-time as a nurse for the School for the Deaf. Margo loved her house in Sioux Falls. She enjoyed when family and friends would come to stay.

Margo moved to Rapid City in the late 2000’s, where she lived the rest of her life. She enjoyed daily walks, bible studies, volunteering, and spending time with her cat, “Kitty.” She continued to grow her faith by attending Knollwood Heights United Methodist Church.

Margo was always on the move. She loved to travel to visit her friends and family. You could find her supporting her grandchildren, Riley and Lexie at their events, visiting good friends, and most recently, helping plant and water tree shelter belts in Winner. She had a love for animals, especially the family dogs. She would never pass up an opportunity to dog sit. Margo spent the majority of her time outside. Pheasant hunting opening weekend was one of Margo’s favorite Nedved family traditions. She would walk almost every field to help flush birds for the hunters. Margo looked forward to her yearly city-wide rummaging trip to Sioux Falls with her sister-in-law Marie and her nieces. She enjoyed rummaging, but what she treasured most was the time spent with family.

Margo lived and celebrated each day like it was her last. She was proud to be an American and live in the great USA. Her faith and love for God guided her throughout her life and lovingly passed those values to her children and grandchildren. She would often say, “everyday is like Christmas!”.

She would like to be remembered when you look at the sky and see a sunrise or sunset – these were the moments that inspired her and brought her great joy. Margo was a blessing to many, and she will be missed forever.

Margo is preceded in death by her parents, Tom and Lillian Sternhagen, stepmother Polly Sternhagen, brother Clayton Sternhagen, Leland Nedved, aunts and uncles, and numerous friends and family members.

Those she leaves behind to cherish her memories are her children Troy (Kris) Nedved, Shane Nedved, and Derrick Nedved, grandchildren, Riley (Caylor) Nedved, Lexie (Colin) Stenson, and many family members and friends.
