Mark Lee Kivi (62) passed away October 11th, 2022 at Monument Hospital in Rapid City, SD surrounded by his devoted wife and loving family.
Mark Kivi was born to Virginia L. (Lee) and Clyde J.M. Kivi on June 8th, 1960 at Ellsworth AFB, Rapid City, SD. Being born to a military family afforded Mark the opportunity to travel and live across the United States including Michigan, Minnesota, Illinois, Texas, South Dakota, in addition to overseas military bases. Mark graduated from Rapid City Central High School in 1978 and immediately entered the United States Air Force in 1979. He served nearly 10 years in the Air Force, serving on Air Bases located at Ellsworth AFB, SD; Loring AFB, Maine; and Izmir, Turkey. While in the Air Force Mark was blessed with the birth of his son, Joshua, and in 1985 while assigned to Ellsworth, AFB, Mark met and married the love of his life, Elizabeth (Betty) Stangle. Upon leaving the military in 1988, Mark was offered and accepted employment with Boeing Aerospace. During his nearly 30 years working with Boeing, Mark attended university earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Business graduating Suma Cum Laude. He would go on to receive many awards and recognition for his achievements. Mark loved to travel, explore and live in new places, which Boeing offered. Therefore, staying true to the military-style of life, he and Betty lived across the country; Oklahoma City, OK; Huntington Beach, CA; Pensacola, FL; Greenville, TX and Huntsville, AL. Mark retired from Boeing in 2016, and settled back in Rapid City, SD. He and Betty enjoyed spending time with family and the many friends made throughout their lives together. Mark was an avid Denver Broncos fan, a motorcycle enthusiast, and one could say, was a cat lover.
Mark is preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Virginia Kivi, maternal grandparents Lewis and Lois Lee (Hereford, SD), and paternal grandparents Arvo and Alma Kivi (Michigan).
