Visitation will be on Monday, November 13, 2023, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at Behrens-Wilson Funeral Home.  Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 14, 2023, at 10:00 a.m., at Victory Chapel in Rapid City followed by burial at Black Hills National Cemetery.

Rufus “Holton” Sandifer, 57, of Milledgeville, Georgia, passed away on November 6, 2023, at his home in Rapid City, South Dakota.

Rufus “Holton” Sandifer was born to Caleb Holton and Lillie Kate Sandifer on June 26, 1966, in Milledgeville, Georgia.  He graduated from Baldwin High School, Milledgeville, Georgia, and studied graphic designs at Macon Technical, Macon, Georgia.  He enlisted in the United States Air Force on December 16, 1986, in Logistics, serving 26 years and 15 days.  Served two tours in Afghanistan receiving and was awarded various service award for wartime service.  He was also awarded four Meritorious Service Medals, three Air Force Commendation Medals, two Air Force Achievement Medals, Joint Meritorious Unit Award, Meritorious Unit Award, including other military decorations for expeditionary and miscellaneous services.  Rufus retired from military service on December 31, 2012, as a Senior Master Sergeant (E8).

Rufus, in his spare time enjoyed watching college/NFL football on the weekend, cooking (especially grilling for family and friends), fishing, caregiving to his mother and mentoring youth.

Rufus “Holton” Sandifer is survived by Toni Tennille Pounds (spouse), Terra Sinead Muhammad (daughter), Jerome Quintavious Anderson and Marquez Jarmar Pounds (sons), Atallah Muhammad (granddaughter), Laith Muhammad (grandson), Estella “Maria” and Rubye Kate Sandifer (sisters).  Reginald “Reggie” Leon Bishop and Michael David Smith (nephews). Special friends and family: Pastor/Mrs. Tel and Ellie Saucerman and family, Juan and Francine Vargas III, and host of military friends.  Rufus was preceded in death by parents, Caleb Holton and Lillie Kate Sandifer.

The family of Rufus Holton Sandifer wishes to extend sincere thanks to Ms. Tracey House, Environmental Service, Monument Hospital, and doctors, nursing team and miscellaneous care staff at Monument Health Cancer Care Institute, Monument Hospital Cancer Care Tower 6th Floor, and Monument Hospice Care and Durable Medical Equipment (Steve).  A special thank you to Colleen Moore for her kindness, care and concern for Rufus.
