Obituary For Sarah June Wilkinson

Sarah June "Sally" Wilkinson, 100, passed away peacefully on July 17, 2026. She was lovingly honored during her funeral service and celebration of life on July 23, 2026.

Sally was born on June 28, 1926, on a farm outside of Gregory, South Dakota, to John and Lydia (Jenner) Burr. On June 12, 1949, in Dallas, South Dakota, she married Edward Carr Wilkinson. They shared 57 wonderful years of marriage until Ed's passing in 2006.

Together, Sally and Ed made their home in Rapid City, South Dakota. After the heartbreaking loss of their oldest daughter, Barbara Ann Wilkinson, in 1976, they opened their hearts and home to Shaun and Laura, raising them with the same unconditional love and devotion as their own.

Sally worked for Wells Fargo for more than 20 years, where she was known for her dedication and strong work ethic.

Family was Sally's greatest joy. She had an adventurous spirit, a wonderful sense of moxie, and a zest for life that inspired everyone around her. She loved dancing at weddings and family celebrations, cheering on her favorite football teams, taking trips to Deadwood, canning pickles, making homemade salsa, and creating cherished memories with those she loved.

Sally is survived by her children, Paula Wilkinson Smith and her husband Steven; Craig Wilkinson; Catherine “Sam” Swaney; Shaun Wilkinson and his wife Amy; and Laura Borders. She was also blessed with 13 grandchildren, Michelle (Corey), Brooke (Patrick), Lee (Stephanie), April (Hans), Dusty (Chelsea), Andy (Megan), Kelly (Violeta), Miranda (Colby), Toni, Mirissa, Kayla, Kyle, Christina, 21 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Wilkinson; her daughter, Barbara; her daughter-in-law, Alexandra Wilkinson, her parents, John and Lydia Burr and her 5 brothers and 4 sisters, Edwin Burr, Christina Burr, John Burr, Elsie Burr, Ruth Burr, Magdalena Burr, Willis Burr, Fritz Burr, Arthur Burr.

There are way too many stories and not enough space. My favorites are the peanut necklace and the Ellis Airforce stories..... What i will remember and hold near to my heart is her love and laughter and so full of life. Love you Aunt Sally and miss you but will always hold you in my heart
