Scott Jordan Gayton, age 56, passed away on Saturday, August 28, 2021, at his home in Rapid City, South Dakota.
Scott was born on September 28, 1964, in Rapid City to Ione Gayton (Romero) and Jordan Gayton. As a child Scotty was an adventurous kid who spent a lot of time outdoors, attempting to make numerous gadgets out of his Grandpa Lupe’s tools, spending time in White Horse, SD with his Uncle Harold, and training to be the next Bruce Lee. He attended elementary school at Knollwood and South Canyon, middle school at West Jr. High, and attended both Rapid City High School and Stevens. In early adulthood Scott had an iron work-ethic and worked as a bus-boy, bricklayer, a machine operator for industrial catering, and did as many odd jobs as possible. Scott later made masonry his chosen trade like his father and grandfather before him, where he was known for his speed and accuracy for which he received numerous craftmanship awards, like the “2011 Construction Industry Center’s craftsmanship award” for exterior brick masonry of Creekside Elementary School in Spearfish. Some of Scott’s other work was also displayed in magazines as well.
During his time as a bricklayer, it opened Scott’s world where he spent time in Texas, Kansas, and Oklahoma. During his time in Texas, he met Jackie Matthews and the two fell madly and stupid in love with each other. Scott later had to return to Rapid City, South Dakota where he would send Jackie narrated mixtapes. Jackie quickly departed to South Dakota with her son, James. During their time together Scott and Jackie had 3 children together. Brandon, Logan, and Morgan. Scott was a great father that passed on his sense of humor, work ethic, and strength onto his children. Scott later had a daughter named Danielle (Bonham).
Scott was a simple man who loved to pass the time listening to music, watching movies, playing pool and foosball, fishing, and enjoying the Black Hills and surrounding area. He was an amazing storyteller, comedian, when he was around smiles and laughter were sure to follow.
Scott is survived by his mother Ione, sister Sami Gayton, children James and Samantha Matthews, Brandon and Danielle Gayton, Logan and Danietta Gayton, Morgan and Taylor Gayton, and Danielle Bonham, nieces and nephews Adonnis and Aries Martinez, Avalon Gayton, and Angelique West. Grandchildren Dallas and Marshal Matthews, Jordan, Liam, Gracelynd, and Oliver Gayton. Also survived by; his aunt and Uncle Tami and Eddie Rodriguez, and cousins Alexis, Adrian, Aris, Asau, and Azure, his Uncle Tom and cousin Jordana Old Bull, Aunt and Uncle Ken and Marilyn Gayton and Aunts (Gayton) Iva Mahr, Ileen Garcia, Iris Garcia, Gilberta Gayton, Bonita Gayton, Billie Jo Gayton.
Scott is preceded in death by his father Jordan Gayton, his grandparents Jessie (Frazier) and Lupe Romero, and Katherine (Jordan) and John Gayton, Aunt Nancy Old Bull (Romero), Uncles Leon, Teri (also known as Stoney), Courtney and Monty Gayton and Aunts (Gayton) Darlene Lopez, and Carol Sheckel.
