Rodney Alan Stumer, 66, of Rapid City, passed away on October 21, 2021 at his home.
Rod was born in Rapid City to the parents of Dale and Neva Stumer on February 2, 1955. He graduated from Rapid City High School and graduated with a bachelor’s in fine arts from the University of South Dakota, Vermillion. He had the distinction of having one of his paintings displayed in the mayor’s office and the Dahls Fine Arts Center. The painting was of downtown Rapid City looking down 5th Street going North. He enjoyed painting, various forms of car racing (RC car, slot cars, online/offline computer racing). He built two huge wooden “thrones” (located outside) to help his dad and him “to survey their land”. He used his creative talents to make t-shirts and sweatshirts with Crazy Coyote on them in honor of Spot, the dog, who was his inspiration. His dogs, Spot and Milo, were inspirations for car exterior paint designs for the computer cars. He loved movies! He introduced his oldest niece and nephew to movies Gremlins and Annie. He would also fly kites with them in the field below the house. He was very kind and generous and was always very supportive and encouraging of his family.
He is proceeded in death by Dale (father) and Neva (mother) Stumer.
Rod is survived by his sister, Carryn Longhenry, niece; Krystol Frerking and her spouse Scott, great-nephew, Ben; nephew Chris Longhenry and his spouse Amanda and great-nephews, Luke, Rowen and Gene; and niece, Rebecca Longhenry.
Memorials may be given to Zion Lutheran Church, School and Preschool. The family of Rod wishes to extend their sincere thanks to everyone for their support, thoughts, and prayers.
