Florence R. Mitzel

Florence Ruby (Cotten) Mitzel, aged 81, passed in Hankinson, ND on April 14, 2023. Florence was born July 16, 1941 in Oakes, ND. She was the middle daughter of 5 to Harley and Ruby Cotten. She attended Oakes & Guelph schools and graduated in 1959 from Fullerton High School in ND. Florence married Francis D. Mitzel on June 6, 1959 in Ellendale, ND. Florence held several different positions, mainly waitressing, working with the elderly and cooking in various restaurants. Frank and Florence also ran the Ashley bowling alley and the Nibble Nook in Ellendale along with managing a couple of motels.
Florence loved the outdoors, especially gardening. She also enjoyed cooking and baking. Florence loved her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, two sisters, her husband, and son.
Florence was a sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who will be greatly missed by her family and friends. May she rest in eternal peace until we all meet again. May she be dancing in her husband’s arms and in God’s garden.
Florence is survived by one sister, Shirley (Russ) Goble; her children, Noreen Mitzel, Amy Zumwalt, and Francis (Tiana) Mitzel; nine grandchildren, David, Samantha (Matt), Darian, Angela (William), Andrew, Ashley, Makayla, Eliza, and Diana; seven great-grandchildren, Natalie, Kayden, Natalya, Kennedy, Annabelle, Amaryllis and Carter.
