Obituary For Agnes Joebgen

Agnes Amelia (Nelson) Joebgen, 89, Rapid City passed away on Monday, January 9, 2017 at home, after suffering a long battle with Congestive Heart Failure. She was the wife of Dale Joebgen and they shared 69 years of marriage together. Agnes was born on a farm by Velva, North Dakota on October 20, 1927 to Sven Oscar Nelson and Blanc Marie (Phillips) Nelson. She was one of ten children, when her mother became ill, when Agnes was eleven, she helped with the laundry, chores, cooking, and tending to the other children. She was able to graduate eighth grade but later in life, after her children were through high school, took a GED course to improve her education. She always read in her spare time. Agnes met and within a few months, married Dale Joebgen on November 6, 1947. To this union they welcomed four children, Wade, Fern, Mike and Jill. Wade and Jill passed away in separate tragic accidents. Agnes was always kind, thoughtful, and generous. She welcomed everyone into her home for a meal and a warm bed, if needed. She was a business woman, housewife, loving mother, and grandmother who always knew how to stretch and make do with what she had. She was proud of her family, and was a wonderful influence on them. She enjoyed making clothes, quilting, embroidering, was a wonderful gardener, and the food she cooked was delicious and inviting. Agnes is survived by her husband Dale, of Rapid City, her daughter Fern Joebgen of Issaquah, Washington, and her son Mike Joebgen of Rapid City, her grandchildren, Alex and Tim Matarazzo, and Kelly Joebgen, her great grandchildren, Seth, Cora, and Trey Matarazzo, and one great-great granddaughter Bobbi Matarazzo, two sisters: Edith Degenstein, and Esther Anhorn. She was preceded in death by her two children, Wade and Jill, her parents, and seven brothers.
