Obituary For Alberta Crosswhite

Alberta Crosswhite, 93, a longtime resident of Rapid City, South Dakota passed away peacefully on April 28, 2017 at Hospice House of the Hills.Alberta was born June 29, 1923 on the prairies of South Dakota near Viewfield. She was the daughter of true homesteaders Paul and Mabel Wilburn. She lived with her two brothers and three sisters. When hard times struck, the family moved to Rapid City. Alberta met the love of her life, Les Crosswhite, in Rapid City. She travelled to San Antonio, Texas to marry him before he went overseas as a P-47 pilot in England during WWII. Alberta lived most of her life in Rapid City. After retiring from J.C. Penney, she volunteered at Rapid City Regional Hospital, Canyon Lake Senior Center, and Canyon Lake School. She was an active member of sorority Beta Sigma Phi, her church circle and JC Penney retirees. She had three children who were honored to call her mother. If you knew Alberta you would know her favorite saying was “everything will be O.K.” Alberta is survived by daughter Carolyn (Joe) Wilson, son David Crosswhite, sister Audrey Hamm, eight grandchildren, and eighteen great-grandchildren along with numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by husband Leslie Crosswhite, daughter Kathryn Allison, son-in-law Douglas Allison, parents Paul and Mabel Wilburn, brothers Leon and Laverne Wilburn, sisters Loretta Korton and Delores Wipf, and long time companion Butter Sheldon. One of Lords true angels finally called home and will be dearly missed.
