She was born at Mobridge, SD on 9/15/1929 to Ruth (Gray) Secker and William (Bill) Secker of rural Selby, SD. She lived on the family farm until after high school graduation when she went to teaching collage. Betty spent her life educating children starting after she obtained a teaching certificate from Ellendale Normal Collage, Ellendale, ND. Her first school was at Dicky, ND and from thereon she taught at various country schools in the Selby, SD area, including Akaska, SD, and Bowdle, SD before moving to Rapid City in 1957 to teach Kindergarten in the Rapid City Public Schools. She met her future husband Lewis W. Rohrer at Rapid City and they were married April 2, 1958 and had 59 + years of a happy marriage. She taught a total of 42 years in her career, 33 of them in Rapid City. She retired in 1990 to join her retired husband in their motorhome, traveling to all 50 states and all the Canadian provinces, which they enjoyed very much. They had a lot of various experiences to share with others, including many photos. Upon learning of her health issues, they sold their country abode, and built a new home at 408 Sapphire Lane, in Rapid City. Preceding her in death were her parents, brother Larry and sister Ellen Jean, and many aunts and uncles.
