Obituary For Brandon Bruce Payne
Brandon Bruce Payne, 48, of Rapid City, SD was called home to heaven on Tuesday, December 23,2025 after a hard fought battle with cancer.
Brandon was born in Rapid City, SD where he spent most of his life. He was the second oldest of six children and was known as a protector, role model and source of endless support for his siblings and family. His presence brought wild adventures, laughter, guidance and a sense of security. In 1996 Brandon met Heather McCauley who later became the love of his life. In 2012, Brandon and Heather were joined in marriage. From this beautiful union they were blessed with 3 children, Lilah, Elley and Ryker. Brandon loved being a dad and took great pride in his family. He was a devoted father, husband, brother, son, and friend.
For the past 31 years, Brandon made a career building and paving surfaces throughout most of western South Dakota, Wyoming and Nebraska. Starting early in life at Old Castle/Hills Material/ Simon's, Knife River and working until his health no longer allowed in November of 2025 as Foreman for Western Construction Inc. He took great pride in his work and if you find yourself on a road, parking lot, path or driveway that is as smooth as glass, chances are it was one that Brandon had a hand in.
Brandon loved spending time outdoors camping, hiking, fishing, rock, gold and deer hunting, and driving fast. Some of his best times were spent with family enjoying great food, fireworks and lots of laughs. He had a great sense of humor and loved to laugh and have a good time. Even though he acted tough and stubborn to the core, he had a huge heart and cared greatly about those around him. Brandon was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Rapid City and found love and peace in his faith. Brandon carried himself with dignity and strength, and stood by his principles. Though he has been called home for his eternal rest, his spirit lives on in the hearts of his family, friends and all who knew him. He will be deeply missed, but we can find comfort in knowing he is in the loving arms of our Savior.
Brandon is survived by his wife Heather (McCauley) Payne and children Lilah, Elley and Ryker; mother Delores Anderson; sisters Chanda (Chuck) Morgan, Amanda Wink, and Nettie Payne; brothers Dustin (Jessica) Payne and Ryan (Theresa) Anderson; Step- Father Arvin (Kathleen) Anderson; multiple Uncles, Cousins, Nieces, Nephews and extended family and friends who mourn his loss.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully asks that any memorial gifts be sent instead to help secure the futures of Brandon's young children, who he loved so dearly. Condolences or memorial gifts may be sent to 23640 Busted Five Ct, Rapid City, SD 57702.
A Celebration of Life will take place for Brandon at 1:00pm Friday, January 2, 2026 at the Moose Lodge located at 841 St. Patrick St. Rapid City, SD.
