Obituary For Carole Sue Oberlitner

Carole Sue Oberlitner, 83, gained her angel wings on November 21, 2025, surrounded by her family at Hospice House.

She was born on January 19, 1942 in Rapid City, SD to Dale and Neva Messer. She graduated from Rapid City High School in 1960.

In August of 1963 she met her soulmate Carl Oberlitner and married him on January 18, 1964. To this union two daughters were born, Sue and Julie.

She was the center of her family’s world and has left a hole in our hearts. She loved with her whole heart and was loved with our whole hearts.

In Heaven, she is greeted by her parents (Dale and Neva), her grandparents, special angels in Heaven, multiple dogs of her own, and grandpups.

Carole is survived by: devoted husband (of 62 years) Carl, daughters, Sue (Ed) and Julie, the light of her life and only grandson Carl Hinman, all of Rapid City, SD. Her devoted bichon, Bella and grandpups x4; brother Bob Messer of Florida; nieces and nephews, and numerous friends.

A special thank you to the angels of Monument Health Home Hospice and Hospice House. You allowed us to send her to Heaven in comfort and dignity.

Oh dear! I just got the news. My heartfelt sympathy to you: Sue, Julie, and Carl. Carole was always so kind and fun and funny when we worked with her at the concession. Everybody loved her. Carl, I shudder to think of the trouble you'll get in without her. With gratitude for all the great memories of Carole and you all.

Carl and Family. I send prayers to you all.

Working for her and Carl at the Wind Cave Concession through High School, taught me about food, hard work, and customer service. The best thing to give a young person. Thank you Carole you will be missed.

Mrs. Oberlitner. That's how I remember her. She was always supportive of her husband Carl in his political and business life. I remember her helping me pick out presents for relatives when she worked at her daughters' store. I got to know her at a municipal officers meeting. She had a wonderful laugh and I learned I had mowed her Aunt Valerie's lawn when I was a kid. She was a class act and I'm sorry for your loss.

Mom, I miss you so much. My whole life you have always been there for me. I miss your hugs, your smile, and your laughter. I am trying my best to take care of Dad for you. He misses your good night kisses and holding your hand. Rest peacefully now. I remember you saying "she fought her battles" when Gram died. You fought more than your fair share. St Michael and I will take over your unfinished business! Until we meet again, hugs to you and all you joined in Heaven.
