Obituary For Charles (Charlie) Kevin Desmond
Charles (Charlie) Kevin Desmond, 67, Rapid City, died Tuesday, October 13, 2015 at Avera McKennan Hospital after a short battle with leukemia. He was born in Brooklyn, New York, to Charles D. and Mercedes (Steckel) Desmond on July 2, 1948. He was the beloved husband of his best friend, Eileen Savio Desmond for more than 35 years. Charlie was a mediator for the Center for Restorative Justice; counselor for SCORE (Service Corps of Retired Executives); Head Start volunteer for Native Americans; Storm Atlas case manager; Mt Rushmore Park Ranger and most recently, Centennial Coordinator for the National Park Service. He acquired the first cellular license for Pacific Paging in Portland, Oregon in 1979 while serving as President. He was the owner/operator of Desmond Communications in the Rapid City area. Charlie was an active member of Our Lady of the Black Hills Catholic Church, a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #7079 and an active member of the NRA. He loved to travel, spend time with family and friends, and helping others in need. He will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved him. Charlie is survived by his wife, Eileen; his son, Charles Joseph (C.J.) (Erin McGuire), all of Rapid City; his daughter, Colleen (Cameron) Moore, Sioux Falls; devoted grandfather (Opa) of Charlotte (Charlie) and Calvin Moore; Gavin and Harrison McGuire. His brother, Dennis (Kathy) Desmond, Bellport, NY; his sister Eileen Egan, Hampton Bays, NY; his mother Mercedes Desmond, New York City, NY and 6 beloved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father Charles Dennis and brother-in-law, Edmond Egan.
