Obituary For Chuck Wilkinson
Arthur Charles (Chuck) Wilkinson, Jr. was born in Hot Springs SD to Arthur and Hannah Wilkinson on February 6th, 1947. He passed away on November 3rd, 2014 after a brief well-fought battle with cancer. He was the youngest of four children and grew up in Pringle, SD. His love for wood and the outdoors began as a young man while logging with his dad, Art. He married Linda Pepin in 1966, and born to that marriage were Sundae and Dallas. He married Bette Jarding in 1977 and they raised daughter LaDawn. Chuck and Sharon Scheef were married in 2001 at which time he welcomed “bonus” sons Rob and Jason, and their families. Chuck loved his work as a cabinet maker, though the title does not serve to encompass the extent of his artistic and creative abilities with wood, glass, and other media. His customers quickly became friends and would request his skills for repeated work in their homes and businesses over the years. Chuck was a beloved spouse, friend, father, grandfather, and brother. His great love for gardening and flowers was evident wherever he lived. Burpee catalogs marked the beginning of the gardening season, followed by planting, weeding, grandkids picking potato bugs, and culminating in an excess that was shared with many. He will always be known for “The Grand Pa’s Corn” and for being the keeper of the secret dill pickle recipe. His love for the outdoors was enjoyed through motorcycling, hiking, camping, backpacking, hunting, and fishing. He was always on the lookout for the biggest, most perfect wood burning trees in the Black Hills. He was a handyman, musician, jokester, storyteller, card player, chef extraordinaire, fixer, mentor to many, and contributor to many causes. We play cribbage because HE did. It was a special time with him. As said by many, he was indeed a “great man” who will continue to teach, lead, and challenge all of us to live big and live well. He left us with this message: “be kind, everyone you meet is fighting a great battle.”Chuck is survived by his wife Sharon, his son Dallas (Lesley) Wilkinson, daughters Sundae (Sean) Morgan and LaDawn Wilkinson, bonus sons Rob (Nichole) Preble and Jason (Jodi) Preble, nine grandchildren, sister Eileen (Alfred/Wink) Raver, brother-in-law Russ Bull, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Ione Carroll and Doris Bull, and granddaughter Kaylee Walker.
