Obituary For Cora L. 'Jo' Edwards

Cora L. ‘Jo’ ‘The Hugger’ Edwards, 78, Burke and formerly of Rapid City, died Wednesday May 6, 2009 at Community Memorial Hospital in Burke.She was born May 19, 1930 at Quinn, SD to Ralph and Cora (O’Brian) Williams. She worked on the family farm as her dad’s “right-hand man”, which earned her the name ‘Jo’. She left at age 14 to attend high school on Gordon, NE.She married Lloyd Robert Edwards and they enjoyed 50 years of marriage prior to his passing in 1996. They raised 7 of their own children plus helped raise over 100 foster children.Cora moved to the Burke/Gregory area in 2001. She enjoyed her “hugs”, playing bingo and doing puzzles with many friends and acquaintances while living at the TLC in Burke. Many people in the Burke and Winner hospitals knew Cora only as ‘The Hugger” and she was known to frequently ask for hugs from all who passed her in the halls. She continued smiling and receiving smiles until her death early in the morning of May 6, 2009. She is survived by her children, Jerry and wife Sharon, Rapid City; Richard and wife Debbie, Clybucca, Australia; Laberta and husband Ted Schmidt, Rapid City, Emma and husband Donald Stewart, Rapid City; Vickie Weese, Gregory; Florence and husband Rich Simmons, Rosemont, MN; Robert and wife Jan, Rapid City; 19 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; six brothers and four sisters. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd., a sister, a brother and a son in law.
