Obituary For Curtis Sander Trogstad
Curtis Sander Trogstad was born Nov. 12, 1912 to Hagbert C. and Gena E. (Texley) Trogstad in Adams County, ND. The oldest of 8 children, he attended the South Fork consolidated school through grade eight. He continued to live at home working with his father and brothers in the farm operation. Curtis was inducted in the Army during WW II and served in England and France where he was wounded and for which he received the Purple Heart and Star for bravery. After receiving an honorable discharge he worked at various jobs in Lemmon, SD and Rapid City where he was employed by the Rapid City School system as a maintenance engineer. He was a devoted member of Trinity Lutheran Church for 40 plus years. Also he was a member of I.O.O.F. Lodge #39 of Rapid City and served as Brig. General Military Council, now retired. Curtis married Louise Pack Hennes on June 2, 1957. Several years later after her death and his retirement from the school system, he developed a lawn care service which he continued to a degree until age 91. He enjoyed meeting with the Senior Citizens group at Piedmont. After age 80, he took organ lessons and thoroughly enjoyed playing for his own entertainment. In August 2004, Curtis moved to Medford OR to live with his youngest sister Lucille Miller. He enjoyed accompanying her when she went bowling 2 or 3 times a week. Just last year, he planted and tended a garden, harvesting the vegetables. Approximately six weeks ago he began to have severe back pain and was diagnosed with cancer in his spine and other areas of his body. He then decided he wanted to return to South Dakota and on June 5th was admitted to Ft. Meade Medical Center where his condition deteriorated very rapidly but he continued to be very mentally alert. His five sisters and his brother spent the day at his bedside on June 10th. Curtis Sander Trogstad, 93, died Saturday June 17, 2006 at Ft. Meade VA Medical Center.
