Obituary For Darlene Roseland

Darlene Roseland, 79, of Rapid City, died Friday, Dec. 16, 2016, at Rapid City Regional Hospital. Darlene was born Dec. 29, 1936, at home in Aberdeen, SD, to Emil and Emma Geist, and grew up in the Faulkton area. She married Frederick Dennis Roseland in 1956, and the family lived in Seneca for 10 years before moving to the Black Hills, where she lived for the rest of her life. Darlene was a hard-working woman who held many jobs, primarily in housekeeping. She worked at The Embers restaurant, the National College of Business and Rapid City Regional Hospital before retiring in 1999. Her passions included gardening, working in the yard, spending time with her grandchildren and taking care of many animals. She is survived by daughters Jeannie Roseland of Rapid City and Debbie Maley of Sun Prairie, WI; grandchildren James Roseland of Rapid City, Erica Maley of Milwaukee, WI and Kobi Maley of Sun Prairie, WI; sisters Alice Devoss of Aberdeen and Shirley Maston of Hill City; brothers Harold Geist of Faulkton and Morris Geist of Faulkton; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.She is preceded in death by her former husband, her parents, daughter Reta Roseland and son Freddie Roseland. Darlene was someone who always put others ahead of herself and her generosity was evident at the end of her life as she graciously donated her organs and tissue to benefit others.
