Obituary For David Lee Ange

David Lee Ange, a beloved husband, father, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 20, 2025, in Rapid City, South Dakota, at the age of 85. Born on February 13, 1940, in Akron, Ohio, David touched the lives of many throughout his remarkable journey.

David was the son of H.H. (Hocut Hones) Ange and Laura Catherine (Ritzert) Ange. He went to Ohio State University and the Columbus College of Art and Design, where he earned diplomas in commercial art. His creative spirit shone through in every endeavor he pursued.

David and Diane Yohanek were united in marriage on January 24, 1970, at Holy Rosary Church in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Shortly after their wedding, they relocated to Rapid City, South Dakota, where they adopted three beautiful children: Shalean Louise at just 5.5 months old, Donald Ian at the age of 4, and Timothy Vikrum at 2 years old. David was a devoted father, and his love for his children was unwavering.

Throughout his life, David worked in various roles across several states, reflecting his diverse interests and dedication to serving others. From construction to working at the Coke plant, the Jewish Childrenโ€™s Home, and the Norris Foundation for Boys in Milwaukee, and Vista in Monte Vista, CO, he touched many lives before settling into a fulfilling career with the South Dakota Department of Social Services, where he served for 23 years until his retirement in 1998.

David was a dedicated professional and a caring individual who enjoyed connecting with people. He spent his time working with clients on ADC, sketching and visiting young people in the Juvenile Detention Center and the Boysโ€™ Club. His artistic talents were matched only by his love for engaging with others, always greeting people with warmth and a welcoming smile at church and wherever he was.

David was a proud Tootsie Roll 3rd Degree Knight of Columbus. He cherished his involvement with the Cursillo community and enjoyed gathering with his friends to pray. He was a dedicated prayer warrior for the end to abortion and other causes.

David spent the last 6 years at Avantara St. Cloud. His time at Avantara was filled with love and support, and his family is grateful for the compassion shown to him by his extended family there. The family appreciates the lovely support shown to them by the staff at Avantara St. Cloud.

Davidโ€™s spirit will continue to live on through those who survive him: his loving wife, Diane Ange of Rapid City, South Dakota; his son, Timothy Ange, also of Rapid City; and several nieces and a nephew who held a special place in his heart.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his cherished sisters Irene Lain and Joan Kovach, and his brothers-in-law, John Lain and Frank Kovach. He also mourned the loss of his beloved children, Shalean Louise Ange and Donald Ian Ange.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to a few of David's favorite charitable causes: the Black Hills Pregnancy Center, the Avantara St. Cloud Activity Fund, the Western South Dakota Juvenile Service Center (gift cards from bookstores encouraged). Davidโ€™s life was a tapestry of love, service, and laughter. His memory will forever remain etched in the hearts of all who had the privilege to know him.

Rest in peace, David, knowing you have left a legacy of kindness and love.
