Obituary For Delores R. Vodicka
Delores R. Vodicka, 98, Rapid City died Thursday, Dec 23, 2010 at Clarkson-Mt. View Healthcare. She was born Delores Roger Marler to Ruth McCollum and Roger Marler in Arkansas on Oct. 10, 1912 and raised in California. During WWII she was proud to be a “Rosie the Riveter” at the McDonald Douglas aircraft plant in Wichita, Kansas where she was in charge of a crew building airplane wings. She was equally proud that she contributed not only to the war effort, but to the safety of airmen and women defending America. She married Joseph Vodicka in 1954 and they moved to the family ranch in Wasta and later to Rapid City where she has lived for more than 50 years. Together they raised three daughters. She worked in the office at Tristate Milling Co; Knecht Lumber Company and lastly at the Rapid City Assessor’s Office from which she retired. Delores is survived by her two daughters, Doris (Charles) Black and Ruth (Philip) Waddington, all of Rapid City; 2 grandchildren, Chris (Gretchen) Ochs, St Paul, MN; Renee (Dan) Michaud, Lakeville, MN; five great grandchildren, Ella, Joseph, Blaine and Fred Ochs and Samantha Michaud; two step-grandchildren, Pam Waddington and William (Patricia) Waddington, California and two step-great-grandchildren, Caitlin and Nicholas Waddington. She is preceded in death by her husband Joseph Vodicka, Sept. 7, 1999 and her daughter Rebecca ‘Becky’ Vodicka Abram.
