Obituary For Donovan Wagner

Donovan Gene Wagner, 89, lifelong resident of Rapid City, died August 1, 2016 at Regional Health’s Hospice House.Donovan was born January 19, 1927 to Floyd and Pearl (Starner) Wagner. He attended Rapid City schools entering the US Navy on March 25, 1944. He served during WW II in the South Pacific and was honorably discharged on May 17, 1946. Because of service, he would later participate in the Honor Flight.Donovan married Dorene Kawlitz in Rapid City on October 1, 1948. They had two daughters, Diane and Darla. Dorene died February 16, 2000.Donovan was employed for many years at Robbins and Stearns Lumber Company starting as a cabinet maker. He worked his way up to wholesale manager. Robbins and Stearns closed in 1988 and he retired in January 1989 at the age of 61.Donovan married Shirley (Naeve) Clason, on April 20, 2002. She died May 17, 2011.He was an active part of the community and a member of several clubs including, Toastmasters, Lions and VFW. He also enjoyed volunteering at The Journey Museum, dancing, woodworking, motorcycles and playing the banjo.Donovan is survived by his fiancé, Betsy Mahoney; 2 daughters, Diane (Tom) Strand, Silver City, Darla (Edward) Klescewski, Rapid City; 4 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; siblings, LeAnn Johnson, Rapid City, Alan Wagner, OR, Colleen (Homer) Burkett, OH, Rita Baase-Shei, MI and Monte (Sherry) Wagner, WA.He was preceded in death by 2 wives, a great grandson, Max Lefler, his parents, a brother, Paul Wagner and an infant sister.
