Obituary For Doris W. Clark

Doris W. Clark, 95, died September 12, 2007 at the Park Bend Health Center in Austin, Texas. Six years ago, she had moved to Texas to be near her son, Dean, and family. Doris previously resided in Rapid City with husband Lee for many years. Doris was born November 22, 1911, at Fedora, South Dakota to David and Beulah Carpenter and lived on the family farm a few miles from town. She attended country school and then graduated from Fedora High School in 1929 as valedictorian. She attended the University of South Dakota in Vermillion for two years where she received her teaching certificate. After she received her certificate, Doris taught school near her home. It was during this time that she met her future husband, Lee Clark. Lee was from the neighboring town of Artesian. After Doris and Lee were married in 1934, they moved to Rapid City. Lee worked for United Buckingham Freight Lines as an "over-the -road" truck driver and Doris became a mother and fulltime homemaker. Doris took a very active part in her children's lives and also the community. She was active in P.T.A., Extension Club, Mother's Club and others. Doris also served on the election board for many years. She was a devoted wife and mother and a friend to all she met. Doris will be truly missed. Doris was preceded in death by her parents, David and Beulah Carpenter; siblings, Lois Carpenter Lambert and Ronald Carpenter; husband, Lee; daughter, Donna Lee DuCom. She is survived by her son, Dean and wife Carlene, Austin, Texas; sister, Myrna Coyle, Rapid City; son-in-law, Eugene DuCom, Honolulu, Hawaii; grandchildren, David DuCom, Tewksbury, Mass., Vickie Clark Zarafshani and husband Hamid, Austin, Texas and Lara DuCom Kolb and husband Robert, Honolulu, Hawaii; great-grandchildren, Ryan and Justin DuCom, Tewksbury, Mass., Gigi, Wiley, Abby and Corby Kolb, Honolulu, Hawaii, Sophia and Zachary Zarafshani, Austin, Texas; numerous nieces; nephews and cousins.
