Obituary For Dorothy Dickie' Williams

Dorothy Mae ‘Dickie’ Williams, 86, Rapid City died Sunday Feb. 18, 2007 at the Care Center in Rapid City. Dorothy was born May 21, 1920 in Broken Arrow, OK to Edgar Mann and Jessie Cordelia (Daniels) Keener. Dorothy had a beautiful voice and during her high school years she sang at funerals, weddings and on the local radio. She was voted Miss Indian Nation Princess for the State of Oklahoma in 1939. At the age of 20, she married Burl Williams. He joined the US Air Force during WWII and was an Air Force fighter pilot during the war. Dorothy followed Burl to Oakland and worked for McDonald Douglas Aircraft as a “Rosie the Riviter”. They had a 32 year Air Force career and traveled and lived in many interesting places. They retired in 1973 and lived the rest of their lives in Rapid City. Dorothy was interviewed on CNN in Sept. 2002 when her husband’s wallet was returned to her from France where he was captured by the Germans in 1944. Dorothy was a wonderful Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother and will be greatly missed. She is survived by her children, Jeannette (Gene) Bennett, Burl Ray Williams, Jr. (Lillian). Dr. Turney Williams (Kerry Reichardt), Cheryl Williams (Kerry), Melissa Williams (Richard Cecil). She leaves six grandchildren, James Dean, Craig Hindle, Candace Hindle, Kelsey Williamson, Christopher Williams, Morgan Kiewel; three great granddaughters, Samantha Hindle, Kate and Irina Shelton and her cat, Lillie. She was preceded in death by her husband Burl, May 6, 2001; her parents, one daughter; one sister and one brother.
