Longtime Rapid City resident, Dorothy R. Shurtz died Saturday May 5, 2007 at the New Underwood Good Samaritan Center. She was 91. She was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Orville Shurtz. They were married Jan 8, 1936 and Orville died July 7, 1981. Dorothy was born in Campbell, NE on Sept. 22, 1915 to Roland and Anna (Jensen) Harper. Dorothy is survived by her children, Sherry and husband Jim Adams; Vicki and husband Don Downing, all of Kerrville, TX; Paula Lewis, Rapid City; Steve and wife Susan Shurtz, Gillette, WY; 9 grandchildren, Cynthia Beermann, Dubai; Christopher Adams, San Diego; Kevin Lewis, Chad Lewis, both of Rapid City; Eric Lewis, Colorado Springs; Brent Downing, Austin, TX; Hillary Baron, Navarre, FL; Melanie Shurtz, Cameron Shurtz, both of Gillette, WY and 9 great grandchildren. The family would lie to extend their thanks and gratitude to the staff at New Underwood Good Samaritan Nursing Home for their loving care the past few years.
