Obituary For Duane L. Dodson
Duane L. Dodson of Hot Springs passed away after battling cancer on Friday, September 6, 2014, at the Veteran’s Hospital in Hot Springs. He was 83 years old.Duane was born January 13, 1931, in Carter, South Dakota to Ira and Phyllis (Iddings) Dodson. Following the receipt of his bachelor’s degree in 1953 from Westminster College in Salt Lake City, Utah, Duane served in the Air Force for four years. Duane moved his family to California in 1957, where he was a high school teacher, athletic coach, counselor, and principal. He retired to Hot Springs and was a longtime and well known resident at the Brookside Apartments. Duane enjoyed watching sports and writing short stories, and was known for his sharp wit and sense of humor. He was an active participant with the local Democratic Party and an active member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Hot Springs. Duane is survived by his sons Mark and Randy (Roseanne), his daughters Shellie (Jeff) Roberts and Stacy (Randy) Platt, his grandson Cole Platt, his brother Rick Dodson, and his devoted friend, Esther Longden. Duane is preceded in death by his parents and his two brothers Lemoine and Larry.
