Obituary For Elfriede E Hazel

Elfriede Ettine Hazel, 92, Norfolk, NE and formerly of Rapid City, passed away peacefully after a brief illness, on Tuesday April 8, 2014 in Norfolk, where she had lived with her daughter and family. Elfriede was born August 21, 1921 in Loga, Germany. At the age of 3 her and her mother Dina Finkenburg came to America and lived with relatives, Emmo Claassen and family in Bancroft, SD. She went to Tobey’s school. She was confirmed and a member of the Spirit Lake Presbyterian Church. She received her citizenship papers on July 10, 1945 and changed her last name to Keiser, which was her stepfather’s name. Elfriede married Dallas Hazel, August 16, 1952 in her parents’ home in DeSmet, SD and they moved to Rapid City in 1953. She worked at JC Penney’s in DeSmet and was a crossing guard and playground supervisor at Berquist School in Rapid City from 1973 to 1981. Thankful and blessed for having shared in her life are her daughter Deldina ‘DeDe’ and husband David Holmgren; grandson Kyle and Stephanie Holmgren; great granddaughter Sophina Holmgren; granddaughter Nicole and Chris Zeman; great granddaughters – twins, Ava and Breanne Zeman; Her special six-toed cat Boo; her cousin Wilm and Elizibeth Reemts and family in Hage, W Germany and so many many friends and relatives that she considered as sisters, brothers, daughters and sons. Her wonderful caring loving personality will make a void in all of our lives and she will be truly missed by so many. She was preceded in death by her husband Dallas in 1999 and her mother.

    Such a sweet woman. She had such a beautiful soul as did her husband Dallas and daughter DeDe. I was friends with Dede as a teen. We lost track of one another. Rest in peace.
