Obituary For Elizabeth Ann Olsen
Ms. Elizabeth Ann "Beth" Olsen, a remarkable woman of 96 years, passed away peacefully on May 12, 2026, in Rapid City, South Dakota. Born on July 7, 1929, in Santa Monica, California, Beth lived a life defined by resilience, independence, and trailblazing achievements.
Beth spent her early years in California and later settled in the small town of Fairfax, where she raised her three children—Jack Adams, Barbara Olsen, and David Olsen—as a single mother. Her independent spirit shone brightly as she created a nurturing home filled with love and adventure. She cherished taking her children to the Russian River to swim and play with their cousins while visiting her younger brother Bob. Winters were spent skiing at Lake Tahoe, fostering a love for the outdoors and creating lasting family memories.
In the late 1970s, Beth made a bold decision to change her career path. She moved her family to Redondo Beach, California, where she pursued contracting classes at UCLA. Her determination led her to secure a position at Aerospace Corporation in El Segundo—a field where women were underrepresented at the time. Beth became a trailblazer for women in contracting and proudly retired from Aerospace in 1992 after years of dedicated service.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Beth was an artist at heart. An avid quilter, she poured countless hours into crafting intricate and creative quilts that earned her numerous awards at quilt shows over the years. Her passion for quilting reflected her meticulous nature and artistic vision.
Faith played an important role throughout Beth's life. She was a devoted member of Calvary Lutheran Church in Rapid City for many years, finding solace and community within its walls.
Beth’s legacy lives on through her surviving family: her brother Robert Olsen of Middletown, California; her son David Olsen of Rapid City; step-son Larry Grubb; granddaughters Jamie, Melanie, and Nikki; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son Jack Adams, daughter Barbara Olsen, and sister Jane Soli.
Beth will be remembered as an independent-minded woman who embraced challenges with courage and grace. Her memory will forever inspire those who knew her to pursue their dreams fearlessly and cherish the bonds of family.
May Beth’s memory bring comfort to all who loved her.
