Obituary For Eva O. Miller
Eva (Borden) Miller, 83, Black Hawk, SD died March 3, 2011 at home where she was surrounded by family. She was born to the late Clifford and Marie (Shore) Borden, Oct. 25, 1927 in Blunt, SD. She graduated from Rapid City High School in 1945. She married the late Ervin Miller Nov. 7, 1947. Eva and Ervin were blessed with 4 children, Patty, Marcia, John and Nelda living in the Rapid City and Black Hawk area. Eva and Ervin were actively involved with REACT Team, which Eva continued to do after Ervin’s death in 1975. Eva loved to be outdoors helping her father do the milking at their dairy farm in Black Hawk. She was not afraid to work and was out fencing and doing other chores alongside the men. While working with son and husband at the Hart Ranch in the 70’s, Eva skinned and dressed the deer for the hunters, one November she did 17 deer. She was also one of the best cooks around. She owned and operated Tony’s café in the 50’s and early 60’s. She worked as a cook for the Alex Johnson Hotel, and Newberry’s department store in Rapid City. With the help of her son John and daughter Nelda she owned and operated Micheal’s Family Dining in Black Hawk. Grandma Eva living across the street from the Black Hawk School watched several kids before and after school. Eva is survived by 4 children, Patty (Emmett) Hof, Clear Field, UT; Marcia Miller (Larry Brazell) Custer; John Miller, Black Hawk; Nelda (Delwyn) Overweg, Black Hawk; 27 grandchildren; 36 great grandchildren; 3 sisters, Leah (Late Dick) Shroll, Oregon; Jessie (late Leonard) Hansen, Hemet CA; Viola (Pete) Hopkins, Bloomington, CA; 1 sister-in-law, Darlene Borden (Don) Potthof, Black Hawk and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband Ervin Miller, March 25, 1975; parents Clifford and Marie (Shore) Borden, brother Clarence Borden; great granddaughter, Eva Elizabeth Adair; great grandson TJ Goldade and mother-in-law Nellie Harberts. The family would like to thank Hospice of the Black Hills.
