Obituary For Flossie Newman
Flossie Newman, 99, passed into the care of our heavenly father on Tuesday, March 22, 2011, surrounded by her family. She was born on April 27, 1911 on a farm outside of Judson, North Dakota, to Charles and Carlean Knapp. The family moved from North Dakota to eastern South Dakota for a time, and then permanently settled in The New Underwood and Rapid City area. Flossie graduated from high school in New Underwood, and obtained a teaching degree from Spearfish Normal School. She taught in country schools for a few years, and then moved into the Rapid City school system, where she taught for 42 years, 26 of which were as a first grade teacher at Garfield Elementary. She love teaching, children, and life, but most of all she loved Christianity. After retirement, she volunteered several thousand hours in service at the Rapid City Regional Hospital. After moving to the Mansfield, Texas, area in 1999, she continued to volunteer and to be active in the United Methodist Church.Survivors: Son, Charles Newman and wife Lou, Mansfield, Texas; Grandchildren Ben, and wife Wanda; Noah; Libby and husband Andy; Toni and husband John; and five great grandchildren.
