Obituary For Gale O. Poland
Gale O. Poland, 85, Rapid City, died Saturday, January 12, 2008 at Golden Livingcenter Meadowbrook Manor, Rapid City.Gale was born April 12, 1922 in Omaha, NE to Arthur W. and Grace E. (Lembke) Poland. He entered the US Army on January 24, 1940 and was later honorably discharged.He married Phyllis Krutsch on August 27, 1955 in Hot Springs, SD. He managed various movie theaters during his career. These include Hot Springs and Denver from 1955-1958. From 1958-1969, he was at the Homestake Theater in Lead and lived in Deadwood which he referred to as the best years of his life. He also managed various theaters in Rapid City from 1970 until retiring in 1979. Gale later worked at the President’s Liquor and Sooper Dooper Grocery Store.He loved motion pictures and the movie industry and was well acquainted to “Eric the Ghost” at the Homestake Theater. He came to be known at the theaters as ‘Uncle Gale’. He also loved to go fishing at various lakes around the area including Cold Brook, Angostura, Canyon Lake and different private bass stock ponds.Gale’s wife died October 26, 1988 which left a void in his life that was never filled.
