Obituary For Gerald C. Fossum

Gerald C. Fossum, 84, Rapid City, died Sunday April 24, 2011 at Rapid City Regional Hospice House. He was born to Julius and Ida (Skaare) Fossum in Pierpont, SD on Dec. 12, 1926. He grew up in the Pierpont area graduating from Pierpont High School in 1944. Following the death of his father, he remained on the farm until entering the US Army on Oct. 20, 1950. He was honorably discharged July 19, 1952. Gerald graduated with a Business Degree from South Dakota State University. On June 10, 1961 he married Vivian Wiedenmeyer in Sioux Falls. They remained in Sioux Falls until moving to Huron in 1964 where he worked for and retired from the Farmer’s Home Administration. While living in Huron he was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church and former President of the Lion’s Club. In 1990 Gerald and Vivian moved to Rapid City where he was active at the South Canyon Lutheran Church. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He is survived by his wife Vivian Fossum, Rapid City; 2 sons, Drew Fossum, Omaha, NE; Reed Fossum, Spearfish; 5 grandchildren; his brother Erwin Fossum, Fargo, ND and his sister Hazel Badgley, Mobridge.
