Obituary For Gertrude E. Coomes

Gertrude Elaine Coomes, 86, Caputa, died Monday Nov. 19, 2007 at Clarkson Mt. View Healthcare. She was born near Denby , SD to Frank and Gonne (Hanson) Grooms on March 15, 1921 . She grew up near Wounded Knee , SD , graduating from Ogalala Community High School at Pine Ridge in 1938. Gertrude married Clyde Coomes in Valentine, NE on May 1, 1939 . She devoted most of her life to farming and ranching at Clyde ’s side. She was a dedicated, hard working farm/ranch wife and a devoted mother and mother-in-law. She was a faithful friend to those who knew her best. Gertrude always enjoyed her pets through the years; Fudge and Pinky had a special place in her heart. Because of failing health, she entered Clarkson Mt. View Healthcare Oct. 26, 2006 . The family would like to send a special “Thank You” to the staff of Clarkson Mt. View Healthcare for their thoughtful loving care. Gertrude is survived by her daughter Elaine and husband Ron Kleinsasser, Caputa; 1 sister, Martha and husband Leo Woodhouse, Gordon, NE; 2 brothers, Patrick Grooms, Denby, SD; Victor Grooms, Canon City, CO; numerous nieces and nephews and a special family, Loni, Monte, Marissa, Lacey and Radley Reichert. She was preceded in death by her husband Clyde , Sept. 4, 1992 ; her parents; and siblings, Frank, Mary, Joseph, Aaron, Samuel, Henry and Davis. Sickness and sorrow come to us all, But through it we grow and learn to “stand tall” For trouble is part and parcel of life And no man can grow without struggle and strife And the more we endure with patience and grace The stronger we grow and the more we can face.
