Obituary For Glenna Jo Pattison

“The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.”

RAPID CITY, SD — Glenna Jo Pattison, 84, went home to her Savior on March 24, 2026. A woman of profound and unwavering faith, Glenna lived her life by the promise of the 23rd Psalm. She found her strength in the "still waters" of her daily prayers and walked through every season of life with the quiet confidence that the Lord was her Shepherd, providing everything she truly needed.

Born on February 16, 1942, in Gordon, Nebraska, to Joseph and Ella Thompson, Glenna moved with her family to Hot Springs, South Dakota, in 1954. After graduating from Hot Springs High School in 1960, she followed a calling to care for others, attending the St. John's McNamara School of Nursing in Rapid City and graduated as a Registered Nurse in 1963.

On Valentine’s Day in 1965, Glenna was united in marriage to the love of her life, Richard Pattison, in Hot Springs. Together, they built a life in Rapid City and recently celebrated a remarkable 61 years of marriage—a testament to the "goodness and mercy" that followed them all their days.

While she was a dedicated nurse and an active member of First Wesleyan Church, Glenna’s true superpower was found at home. Her kitchen was the heart of the family, where she baked love into every batch of snickerdoodle cookies and her famous chocolate cake with fudge frosting. Whether she was tending to her garden, lost in the pages of a good book, or spending time with her grandchildren, she created a legacy of warmth and peace for everyone who knew her.

She is survived by her husband, Richard; her children, Richard (Rebecca) Pattison and Charla Henk, both of Rapid City; her sisters Shirley (Jerry) Edwards of Rapid City and Karen Duncan of Pensacola, Florida; 7 grandchildren; and 14 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Ella Thompson.

Interment will occur at a later date.

"Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life.”

Dick: Corlis and I send our deepest condolences. Your long and loving lives together make the loss especially hard. Know that the separation is only temporary is the greatest comfort. We wish we could attend Glenna's service but I have managed to mess up my back and couldn't sit on a hard pew. May the Good Lord bless and keep you. Bill & Corky Kotila
