Obituary For Harold A. 'Zip' Wick

The heavenly angels welcomed Harold Albert (Zip) Wick, on August 20, 2008. Harold was born Feb. 26, 1918, in Brantford, ND, to Rudolph and Beatrice (Schock) Wick. He married Elaine Isabelle King on Sept. 29, 1945, in Stanley, ND. Zip attended country school in the Brantford area before completing high school in New Rockford, ND in 1935. After a lifetime of farming the North Dakota prairie and raising thirteen exceptional children, Harold retired and moved to the Black Hills of Rapid City, SD. He and his soul-mate, Elaine, led active lives by each other’s sides for nearly sixty-three years. What he lacked in words, he made up for with his loving hands and tenderness. His children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were the highlights of his life. Gardening, traveling, fishing, sports watching, and card playing were some of his many pastimes. He had great compassion for all animals. When he wasn't traveling the world with his family, he could be found in his yard with a rake in his hands keeping his world beautiful. Fishing took him from the Sheyenne River in ND, to the big waters of Alaska, and to the riverbanks of SD. He enjoyed a good steak, a Jim Beam, and a rousing game of pinochle where Zip was always the preferred partner. He is survived by his wife Elaine; thirteen children: Ron (Denver, CO), LaDonna Rolfson (Moorcroft, WY), Sandy (Merle) Longnecker (New Rockford, ND), Joni Wick (Evergreen, CO), Sara Wick (Dallas, TX), Harold wife Lorra (Dallas, TX), Rudy wife Kathy (Gillette, WY), Howard (Rapid City, SD), Tim wife Stacie (Gillette, WY), Roger (New Rockford, ND), Tracy (Dan) Painter (Pierre, SD), Kristina Wick (Rapid City, SD), Melissa Wick (Ogdensburg, WI); 19 grandchildren: Erling (Patricia) Rolfson, Stephanie Rolfson, Kim (Mike) Vannett, Eric (Lisa) Longnecker, Casey Painter, Kelsey Wick, Whitney Ray, Hunter Ray, Jacob Wick, Andrew Wick, Harrison Wick, Zachary Wick, Sarah Wick, Nathan Wick, Grace Wick, Lilly Wick, Rose Mae Wick, Lane Wick, Eleanor Wick; 9 great-grandchildren: Alexis Vannett, Riley Longnecker, Remington Vannett, Tucker Longnecker, Cassie Longnecker, Simon Rolfson, Natalie Rolfson, Samantha Vannett, Joe Rolfson; special nephew Tom Shephard (Coarsegold, CA); and the most loved pet Buddy. He is welcomed into eternal life by his his parents, five sisters, and one brother. Peace seemed to be with Harold, most always and in most ways. He was a gentle soul with patience and that is how he left us. We are grateful for our memories and we will never forget Zip.
