Obituary For Harriet G. Olesen
Harriet G. (McLean) Olesen, 88, Rapid City died Sunday Oct. 3, 2010 at Fountain Springs Health Care. She was born Nov. 14, 1921 in Gettysburg, SD to John and Eda (Sevesand) McLean. During WWII, Harriet worked in Los Angeles as part of the Rosie Rivetter team. She returned to SD at the end of the war. She married Louis Olesen, after he returned home from the war. They were married in Gettysburg and had three children. In 1955 they moved to Rapid City and made it their permanent home. Harriet was a “stay at home Mom” for many years. In later years she worked at CP Clare and Magnacraft. After the death of Louis she worked at Landstrom’s Black Hills Gold until she retired in 1986. Mom loved a good, competitive game of Whist. She was a member of Canyon Lake Senior Center for many years and missed very few games of whist. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church for many years and then attended Our Redeemer Lutheran in later years. She was a lifetime member of VFW Ladies Auxiliary and donated many hours to them. Harriet is survived by her daughter Roleen (Lynn) Thorson; her son James (Deb) Olesen all of Rapid City; 7 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren and 1 sister, Evelyn Turley, San Diego, CA. She is preceded in death by her husband Louis, Sept. 11, 1976; her son Steven; 9 brothers and 6 sisters.
