Obituary For Harvey L. Buck

Harvey L. Buck, 90, Rapid City died Friday, June 12, 2009 at Rapid City Regional Hospital.Harvey was born June 10, 1919 at Butler, SD to Herman D. and Ethel (McGyver) Buck. He grew up in the Webster and later Bristol areas where he farmed.He married Lela M. Person on September 17, 1940 in Deadwood, SD.Harvey served as a sergeant in the US Army during WW II with the 945th Anti Aircraft Artillery Automatic Weapons Battalion and earned numerous medals including the Asiatic-Pacific Service Medal, Philippine Liberation Medal, WW II Victory Medal and Good Conduct Medal. He was stationed in New Guinea, Japan and the Philippines and was honorably discharged in 1946. He and Lela moved to Rapid City and Harvey was involved in the insurance business for many years. He also sold monuments for West River Monument Company.Harvey was a member of various organizations including the ELKS and Masonic Lodges, Shrine and VFW Post #1273. He especially enjoyed the outdoors by fishing, hunting, camping and boating.He is survived by a daughter, Sharon L. and husband Ronald Stone, Vona, CO; 2 sons, Donald E. Buck, Rapid City, Ronald L. and wife Kathy Buck, Littleton, CO; 3 grandchildren, Roxanne and husband Mark Wieman, Orlando, FL, Stephanie Stone, Louisville, CO, Troy and wife Bekki Golshan, Costa Mesa, CA; 2 great grandchildren, Madison and Darya Golshan; a sister, Arletta Hainer, Mt. Home, Ark; and a nephew Gary and wife Bev Buck, Bismarck, ND.He was preceded in death by his wife on October 19, 1992 and 2 brothers, Burton and Alton Buck.
